Earlier this week Sydney, Australia based NetRegistry announced it has acquired PlanetDomain in a deal worth over $8m. Established in 1997, NetRegistry is Australia's second largest web hosting company with over 150,000 SME customers. With the purchase of PlanetDomain it will now serve more than 250,000 SME customers.

PlanetDomain is a fully ICANN and AuDa Accredited Registrar, and a Member of Nominet. It offers cheap domain name registration, cost effective web hosting solutions, e-Commerce, and other value added services and specializes in global top-level, European, USA, UK, and other country code domain names.

Former PlanetDomain owner Primus Telecom decided to sell its domain name registration and web hosting business in order to grow long-term core growth areas of broadband, IP business and consumer products.

With this acquisition NetRegistry aims to expand the range of services available to PlanetDomain customers by including offerings in high growth online marketing and advanced hosting services, according to Larry Bloch, CEO NetRegistry. NetRegistry has planned further acquisitions of companies supplying hosted applications to large numbers of small businesses in Australia.
