IDC reported that protecting data and identities presents significant challenges to most organizations, many of whom are learning that security solutions are an integral part of a successful business strategy.

The 2nd annual IDC Security Forum East: Minimize Risk Through Infrastructure Security and Business Continuity features two dedicated tracks focusing on infrastructure security and business continuity.

The forum will be held September 19th at the Millennium Broadway Hotel in New York City, and will provide IT and security executives with practical tools for overcoming specific day-to-day challenges. The discussions will cover risk management, perimeter defense, compliance, vulnerability management, policy enforcement as well as measuring the ROI.

Digiweb Ltd (www.dsl.digiweb.ie) announced a new completely free service which will allow potential Broadband customers to check their phone lines for DSL suitability. Customers simply need to text the letters “BB” followed by their landline number. Within 30 seconds customers will receive a text back with instructions what to do next.

HP (www.hp.com) announced that it has set an industry-first milestone by shipping more than 1 million Linux servers to customers since 1998. HP has led the worldwide Linux server market for 29 consecutive quarters.

In the first quarter of 2005, HP reported a growth of 2.5 percentage points faster than the market in units on a year-over-year basis.

Netcraft reported that EV1Servers is now focusing on growth in its profit margins, then on number of sites served. The company launched the discount dedicated server craze with $99 a month pricing. The CEO, Robert Marsh says EV1Servers wants to win long-term customers, rather than price wars.

SAVVIS (www.savvis.com) announced that Easybroker, an independent, full service, agency brokerage operating in the global equity markets, will adopt their virtualised services delivery platform.
