Agiliti Teams With Compellent to Offer Low-Cost, Offsite ‘Data Replication’ Service
HostReview.com ST. PAUL, MN - March 1, 2004 - Agiliti Inc., a leading IT services provider, today announced a new service, built upon Compellent's Storage Center™, a highly anticipated storage solution that was unveiled last week after two years of development. Beginning in June, Agiliti will provide the customers of Compellent's business partners the ability to replicate their critical data in near real-time from their own Compellent systems to a second Compellent system located and maintained at Agiliti's tier-one data center. "The market is demanding more cost-effective, high-availability and disaster recovery solutions," said Tom Kieffer, CEO of Agiliti. "This service allows Compellent customers to quickly and cost effectively replicate their SAN (storage area network) data across a wide area network (WAN) to our offsite facility. By renting storage capacity on Agiliti's own Compellent-based infrastructure and taking advantage of historic cost reductions we're now seeing in bandwidth, these customers can achieve their demanding IT and business objectives at an affordable price-point." Compellent, a well-funded and highly watched startup, was founded by storage industry veterans Phil Soran, John Guider and Larry Aszmann. Compellent's deliverables, embodied in its new Storage Center™ product, enable any business to purchase significantly less storage, recover from data hazards within minutes, scale to any capacity across any technology, and manage its storage without adding staff. Compellent distributes their products exclusively through a select network of business partners. Agiliti intends to market their new service to the customers of Compellent's business partners, enabling them to offer affordable remote replication services. "Agiliti and Compellent both share the same approach to our respective markets. We allow our customers to pay for only what they use, and the ability to scale rapidly and easily. Together, we expect to expand the market for high-availability solutions that have previously since been out of reach for small and mid-size enterprises," said Phil Soran, CEO of Compellent. Storing data at a remote site has traditionally taken place with magnetic tape media. However, new disk backup technology is rapidly changing that picture, and the business demands of today's 24x7, always-on world require more companies to replicate their critical business data to servers at a remote site, which can be quickly or automatically brought online in case of a failure at the main site. "This new service, coupled with existing Agiliti services, greatly enhances our high-availability options," said Scott DesBles, principal consultant and lead storage architect at Agiliti. He said customers will pay for the new service based on the amount of actual stored data. They can purchase it either alone or bundled with a high-speed WAN connection. "Compellent's StorageCenter™ has the capabilities built in to replicate data over an IP network," said Agiliti's DesBles. "That makes it easier and less costly for customers to safeguard their data at a remote facility, and quickly restore data in the event of a data hazard." Agiliti's Compellent Replication Service compliments Agiliti's other offerings which include a full range of outsourced data center services - from co-location to fully managed hosting; monitoring and network management services to improve reliability and control of remote or hosted systems; and online software application delivery and management for independent software vendors (ISVs).
