UK's number one estate-agency website signs hosting deal with Cable & Wireless

Cable & Wireless, a leading provider of communications services to UK businesses, today (31 May 2004) announced that it has signed a major hosting deal with YOUR MOVE, one of the UK's leading estate agents. Cable & Wireless will host www.your-move.co.uk, the UK's number one estate-agency website, as well as applications for the estate agency chain's nationwide branch network of offices that help it to streamline the process of matching homes with buyers.

The deal is to outsource hosting arrangements previously handled in-house by Norwich Union, with the emphasis on providing scalability, resilience and uptime of the YOUR MOVE website.

As the UK's sixth largest estate agency network, YOUR MOVE has over 270 branch offices throughout the country. Under the terms of the deal, Cable & Wireless will enable YOUR MOVE to:

• support demand to view www.your-move.co.uk from more than 200,000 unique users searching its database of 9,000 properties each month;
• support the secure electronic transfer of documents between YOUR MOVE and its conveyancing business partners by hosting its 'Sonic' technology;
• send large data files faster, for example, the pictures and particulars of properties which YOUR MOVE advertises in property papers, using File Transfer Protocol (FTP) and Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) applications;
• Provide access to strategic internet sites for Your Move staff, using secure proxy services.

This package of services will give YOUR MOVE's staff better transparency of the properties on its books through a single centralised online resource, enabling them to match buyers with homes for sale faster and more easily. In addition, by outsourcing the management of its operations to Cable & Wireless, YOUR MOVE will improve the scalability and reliability of the service.

In 2001, Cable & Wireless signed a seven-year contract with Aviva plc, the UK's number one insurer, which operates the Norwich Union and YOUR MOVE brands, to integrate all of Norwich Union's voice and data communications to run over a single Internet Protocol (IP) network. This new hosting contract, previously managed in-house by Norwich Union, was won following a competitive pitch.
